POSITION PROFILE:

Are you passionate about supporting students and families and building strong partnerships within a school community? Joining our team as a School Based Family Resource Center (SBFRC) Program Coordinator could be your next step! As a Program Coordinator, you will play a key role in connecting students and families to resources, strengthening family engagement, and collaborating with school staff to remove barriers to student success.

In addition to managing a caseload of students and families, this position coordinates student and family engagement events, an array of direct client support services, and connects parents and students to community-based resources. This position is 100% out stationed on a school campus.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with students and parents in a cross-cultural environment and will cultivate relationships while possessing independent judgment, adaptability, and creativity.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate events and engagement activities for parents and students, including leadership and mentoring activities and group facilitation.
  • Connect and refer students and families to school/community information and services.
  • Facilitate youth development and social-emotional learning (SEL) and positive youth development services through individual, group, classroom, and other program-based interventions, as appropriate to program needs.
  • Perform client advocacy, referrals, and client follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate, updated case files and compile statistical data as required.
  • Develop and maintain communication and positive relationships with school staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Conduct outreach, recruitment, and retention of program participants.
  • Collaborate with school and community partners.
  • Attend relevant community, school site, and school district meetings and participate in all mandatory SAY, funder, and partner-related meetings.
  • Serve as SAY SD representative and liaison between SAY SD, the school site and community partners.
  • Take initiative, be self-directed, and work independently.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Certifications):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Development, Humans Services, or related field preferred
  • Experience in case management, group facilitation, direct client service, and delivering curriculum-based interventions with youth and families.
  • Experience coordinating events and collaborative activities
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and cultures and socio-economic families
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred or other common newcomer language of community served by SBFRC.
  • Experience working with school systems is highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess knowledge of multi-cultural critical issues and community conditions facing children, youth, and families throughout San Diego
  • Computer skills to include proficiency of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong customer service and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative, be self-directed, effectively manages multiple demands, and work independently
  • Works well with a broad range of diverse, cultural and socio-economic populations and backgrounds.
  • Flexibility to work evenings when needed
  • Access to reliable transportation and willing to use it for work-related purposes.
