Position: Director of Shelter and Housing Services
Location: Northern

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Chief Clinical Officer

HOURS: :
Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Regular work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.

-5:00 p.m. Additional evening, weekend, or extended hours may be required based on program needs, emergencies, or crisis situations. Participation in the agency’s rotating monthly on-call back-up schedule is required. Travel is required.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Shelter and Housing Services provides leadership, oversight, and coordination of all residential shelter and housing programs operated by Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence, including Jane’s House, Adrienne’s House, and agency housing programs. This position ensures that shelter and housing services are aligned with the agency’s mission, trauma-informed philosophy, funding requirements, certification standards, and organizational goals.

The Director directly supervises Shelter Managers and the Housing Program Manager and is responsible for program operations, quality assurance, grant implementation, compliance monitoring, policy development, staff development, and cross-program coordination. The Director serves as a key agency representative with community partners, funders, oversight agencies, landlords, housing providers, and stakeholder groups and works collaboratively with agency leadership to support high-quality, survivor-centered services and continuous program improvement.

TRAUMA-INFORMED LEADERSHIP

The Director of Shelter and Housing Services models and promotes trauma-informed leadership principles, including safety, trustworthiness, collaboration, empowerment, cultural responsiveness, and respect. This position is responsible for fostering shelter and housing program environments that prioritize survivor dignity, staff wellness, accountability, and continuous quality improvement.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in victim services, shelter operations, social services, housing programs, or related human service settings.

Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory and program management experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and shelter operations.

Experience with grant-funded programs, compliance monitoring, program evaluation, and quality assurance.

Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and monitor program outcomes.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.

Ability to work collaboratively with staff, community partners, funding agencies, and stakeholders.

Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Oversight
  • Provide leadership and oversight of all residential shelter and housing programs.
  • Ensure programs operate in accordance with agency mission, policies, funding requirements, and best practices.
  • Monitor program performance, service delivery, operational effectiveness, and client access to services.
  • Develop and implement program goals, objectives, and improvement initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and management-level support to Shelter Managers and the Housing Program Manager in addressing significant operational, staffing, compliance, and client-service concerns.
