AI Engineer (Applied/Software), Machine Learning/ ML Engineer, Software Engineer
Works heavily with AI, ML, LLMs, and MLOps for autonomy — aligns with AI-driven engineering and rapid model deployment workflows.
About the RoleDevelop and integrate autonomy and AI algorithms for mission systems, taking solutions from requirements and prototype through integration, testing, and deployment. Focus areas include perception, planning, controls, human-machine interfaces, and ensuring algorithms meet safety and verification requirements for fielded systems.
RoleLockheed Martin is hiring an Ontology Agentic Software Engineer to develop, integrate, and deploy autonomy and artificial intelligence algorithms for mission systems. The role supports the technology development lifecycle from requirements generation through software design, implementation, integration, testing, and fielding.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement algorithms enabling perception, motion/mission planning, and controls for LM products and platforms.
- Translate requirements into software design and production code; integrate algorithms into deployed software products.
- Take algorithms from prototype through integration, test, troubleshooting, debugging, and deployment.
- Review test outcomes, perform verification and validation, and support safety-critical software processes.
- Mentor engineers and lead technical tasks where applicable.
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or related STEM field plus 9 years relevant experience; or Master’s plus 7 years; or PhD plus 4 years.
- Experience developing and implementing machine learning, AI, or autonomy algorithms (perception, planning, controls).
- Proficiency programming in Python and/or C++.
- Experience taking algorithms from prototype through integration, test, and deployment.
- Experience translating requirements into software design and implementation.
- Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or Tensor Flow.
- Applied LLM or generative AI experience on engineering or mission problems.
- MLOps experience: model deployment, monitoring, and CI/CD for ML systems.
- Familiarity with robotics and autonomy stacks (e.g., ROS), sensor fusion, and motion planning.
- Experience with cloud ML platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Model verification & validation, testing, and safety-critical software process experience.
