Position SummaryGeneral Laborers are responsible for general upkeep and maintenance of facilities and grounds, custodial duties in offices and maintenance shops, and may assist in various lines of business.
Responsibilities- Maintain facility grounds, including mowing, trimming, and picking up paper/trash.
- Operate hand‑held, manual, electrical, and gas‑powered tools and equipment.
- Ensure safe operating condition of assigned equipment and tools according to Company policy and OSHA.
- Assist with organization and distribution of waste carts and bins.
- Perform safe driving practices while transporting, loading, and unloading containers and bins.
- Act as a helper on route as needed.
- Assist with general housekeeping of maintenance shops and offices.
- Perform minor repairs and general upkeep of facilities.
- Clean, prepare, and paint containers.
- Build, repair, and install erosion control such as silt fence and straw bales.
- Interact professionally with internal and external customers.
- Pressure‑wash and perform minor repairs on waste carts, bins, containers, and portable restrooms; prepare for delivery as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position will not manage employees.
Skills & Abilities- Mechanical aptitude preferred.
- Self‑starter with strong work ethic capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to interact professionally with internal and external customers.
- Proficient in reading, speaking, and writing English to understand directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
- Experience working with various hand tools and equipment preferred.
- Lifting/carrying up to 10 lb continuously.
- Pushing/pulling up to 10 lb frequently.
- Lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 35 lb occasionally.
- Lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 100 lb rarely.
- Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions.
- Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter.
- Occasionally stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling.
- Occasionally climbing and/or balancing.
- Rarely sitting.
- Continuously standing.
- Frequently walking.
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Ability to travel between offices, as required.
- Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
- Must successfully complete pre‑employment testing.
- Must read and speak English.
