The City of Columbus has a current job opening and is accepting applications for the position of full-time Equipment Operator.
This is semiskilled work in the operation of trucks, tractors and other light and moderately heavy automotive equipment. An employee in this class is responsible for the operation of a variety of light and moderately heavy equipment in the construction, maintenance and repair of the city's streets, alleys, bridges, storm sewers, culverts and right-of-way’s. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Streets Supervisor, and the employee exercises some independent judgment in the operation of assigned equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Repairs street and highway surfaces
- Trims and remove trees, bushes and weeds
- Assist with the operations of the City’s Waste Transfer Station as needed
Qualifications
- Experience in the operation of moderately heavy trucks and or related automotive equipment.
- Knowledge of concrete work
- Skills in the use of hand tools used in the maintenance of equipment
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse weather conditions
- Must maintain a Commercial driver’s license within first 3 months of hire
- Salary Range is $21.77 - $29.38
