By joining our Gallatin County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I, you'll have the opportunity to perform basic level work of highway roadway or roadside and construction operations.
- Operate a small single axle dump truck hauling materials to and from job sites.
- Operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader to work in the winter months.
- Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting, and use chemical sprayers.
- Learn and assist with basic surveying activities or construction projects.
- Flag for operations requiring traffic control.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance work on equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Working on rough terrain and in changing climates.
- Working with strict deadlines.
- Completing shift or on-call schedules.

NONE - SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Conditions
Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide.
