* Summary:

** This position involves various administrative duties that under general supervision will supervise and provide support to the maintenance department. Duties include but will not be limited to maintenance and repair of Transit fleet, overseeing work of mechanics, overseeing work of Utility Park and Clean maintenance team, ordering parts, inventory control, work order paperwork, and other duties assigned by the Transit Fleet Supervisor II.

* Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

*** Conduct all Transit Department business in a professional and an ethical manner.
* Gets mileage and enters it into the computer; enters pre-ops from the day before; and prints tracking sheets and gives to the supervisors.
* Orders and pays for parts, submits paperwork, and authorizes the payment of bills for breakdowns, repairs, and parts.
* Maintains Transit fleet inspections to ensure compliance.
* Assist Transit Fleet Supervisor II with maintaining shop performance standards.
* Assist Transit Fleet Supervisor II with maintaining OSHA hazardous chemicals compliance.
* Trains/Mentors Mechanic Apprentice and Mechanic I.
* Mentors all maintenance staff providing guidance with diagnosing mechanical issues with the fleet, making appropriate repairs and other needs.
* Follows behind maintenance to evaluate repairs and services.
* Recommend appropriate disciplinary actions, when necessary, to the Transit Fleet Supervisor II.
* Evaluates vendor relations (e.g. involving staff, vendors, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper representation of City of Amarillo and Amarillo City Transit.
* Prepares a variety of written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
* Create job tickets and assign duties according to mechanical skills required. Close tickets as jobs are completed.
* Fill in as lead Fleet Supervisor in the absence of the Transit Fleet Supervisor II, performing all duties required to keep the fleet maintained and the appropriate number of vehicles ready for daily revenue service.

* * To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required. This position also requires an understanding of the materials and tools used in a repair facility along with a strong technical background in diesel and automotive engines, hydraulics, and electrical components.

** Must possess strong maintenance and diagnostic skills. Must possess excellent customer service skills and be familiar with the concepts of time management. Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must enhance the maintenance department through quality teamwork.

* Experience:

*** Five (5) years Diesel and Automotive Mechanic experience preferred
* Excellent oral, written, and communication skills
* Adaptability and flexibility required
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to work effectively build and maintain positive relationships with others

Consideration will be given to any combination of qualification requirements.
** Independent Action**:

Able to work with limited supervision.
** Supervisory Responsibility:
** Review personnel actions, recommend appropriate disciplinary actions to Transit Fleet Supervisor II. Take on lead supervisor responsibilities in the absence of the Transit Fleet Supervisor II.
