Position:
Summer ARCH Activity Leader
Schedule:
5 hours per day, 4 days a week (Monday through Thursday) for 6 weeks (June 15 – July 23, with the week of June 30 – July 3 off). Must be available to work one of the following shifts:
Elementary School Hours 11:00–4:00, Middle School Hours 9:30–2:30.
Our activity leaders are front-line staff who engage with students to provide them with fun and exciting academic and enrichment activities. They must be positive role models who are energetic, creative, and welcoming to children at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Essential Job Functions- Assist in daily program activity planning, preparation, and implementation.
- Institute and enforce all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures per the district, child care licensing and the general guidelines.
- Assist site coordinator by leading daily activities that may include academic enrichment, health and wellness, games, crafts, music, and recreation indoors or outdoors.
- Assist with homework time and tutoring in subjects such as reading, writing, math, and other areas.
- Ensure participant welfare, safety and inclusion during all activities.
- Work effectively with students in after school activities and assist with behavior management, discipline, interpersonal actions, and act as a role model.
- Maintain a safe and clean atmosphere; ensure proper maintenance and storage of all supplies and equipment.
- Communicate with the site coordinator and parents of participants when needed in a professional and effective manner.
- Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public, staff, and students, acting in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
- Attend professional development and staff meetings as scheduled.
- Serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and or snacks as appropriate for programming.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Site Coordinator, Program Project Director, Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
- Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of grant requirements and licensing regulations.
- Computer applications related to the work.
- Principles and practices of record management.
- Lesson planning and classroom management.
- Techniques for working with individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, public officials, community organizations, school staff and the public.
- Using initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
- Following and maintaining safety standards.
- Techniques and methods of student supervision and behavior management.
- Following verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment.
- Cooperative, dependable, positive and enthusiastic.
- Ability to multitask and be flexible when asked to assist in program activities or to assist another building/location for the day.
- Work effectively with students of different ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
- Michigan Driver's License.
- CPR, First Aid and AED certification within three (3) months of date of employment.
- High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience working with children in an education, recreation, or similar program; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Willingness to complete at a minimum of 16 hours of annual training in addition to CPR/First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen training.
