Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Special Education Supervisor, the Resource Teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by providing an optimal learning environment and managing individualized educational programming.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Develop Individualized Education Program(s) (IEPs) for students based on evaluation data and research-based practices and function as the case manager for those students.
- Accurately complete all required components of an IEP, including present level statements, measurable goals and objectives, and documentation of progress toward goals and objectives.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of positive behavior support plans (PBSP).
- Provide support to general education classroom teachers.
- Collaborate with all service providers, general education teachers, and other staff to assist in providing support and documentation for the implementation and Review of Existing Evaluation Data (REED) process.
- Participate and support implementation of interventions in the Response to Intervention (RtI) process as appropriate.
- Ability to teach social strategies to students to facilitate success in general education.
- Log and maintain monthly Service Capture reporting requirements for Medicaid Billing.
- Participate in parent meetings, including IEPs and Parent/Teacher Conferences.
- Integrate the creative use of technology in instruction and the classroom.
- Establishes and maintains a functional classroom environment by establishing student behavior standards that ensure adherence to all school and district policies necessary for promoting student learning and well-being.
- Designs and implements differentiated, challenging, and engaging instructional plans and materials for diverse student populations, utilizing varied teaching styles and current educational pedagogy to maximize learning.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective and collaborative communication with students and parents.
- Participates in staff meetings, PLC’s and other committees as indicated.
- Demonstrate an understanding of working with standards.
- Regular, reliable and punctual attendance.

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to abide by all district policies and procedures and demonstrate competencies specified in Michigan Special Education Rules and Regulations.
- Knowledge of research based interventions for reading and math.
- Knowledge of Response to Intervention.
- Knowledge of behavior support strategies.
- Demonstrated competency in the administration and interpretation of academic testing and development of behavior support plans.
