Manufacturing Engineer – Assembly Operations Position SummaryThe Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting, improving, and optimizing assembly operations through direct engagement with production processes, equipment, and personnel. This is a highly hands-on role that combines engineering expertise with practical problem-solving on the manufacturing floor. The successful candidate will work closely with production, quality, maintenance, and supply chain teams to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities Manufacturing Process Support- Provide daily engineering support to assembly operations.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Develop, document, and maintain manufacturing documents, such as, Work instructions, standardized work, PFMEAs and assembly procedures.
- Monitor production performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Lead process improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and delivery.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis methodologies to eliminate waste and improve efficiency.
- Conduct time studies, line balancing activities, and workflow analysis.
- Implement poka-yoke (error-proofing) solutions and process controls.
- Design, specify, and implement assembly fixtures, tooling, and workstations.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, and validation activities.
- Evaluate automation opportunities and assist with implementation projects.
- Investigate manufacturing and assembly defects using structured problem-solving methods.
- Participate in corrective and preventive action activities.
- Support PFMEA, control plan development, and process validation efforts.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.
- Lead manufacturing-related projects from concept through implementation.
- Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, and performance metrics.
- Coordinate activities with production, quality, maintenance, purchasing, and suppliers.
- Support new product introductions and engineering change implementation.
- Maintain a strong presence on the production floor.
- Work directly with operators to identify process improvements and resolve production concerns.
- Train production personnel on new processes, equipment, and best practices.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- 3+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in an assembly environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, bills of materials, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with automation, robotics, and assembly tooling.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience with ERP and MES systems.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or similar quality management systems.
- CAD experience (Creo, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar).
