About the Role

Join our growing team! The City of Kentwood is seeking applicants for a Utilities Maintenance Technician I in the Department of Public Works. As our team continues to expand to support increased service demands and workload, we are excited to add two new team members to this role.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist with the construction, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater systems, including mains, sewers, manholes, laterals, and related equipment
  • Support service operations such as water meter installation, service turn‑ons/shutoffs, leak detection, and utility locating (Miss Dig)
  • Operate and assist with equipment and technology including CCTV systems, field testing tools, and various light and heavy vehicles and construction equipment
  • Perform inspections, sample collection, and basic testing related to water quality, cross‑connection control, and system performance
  • Conduct routine vehicle and equipment checks, perform minor maintenance, and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained
  • Assist with general Public Works operations, including debris removal, snow operations, and supporting other divisions as needed
  • Follow safety procedures, identify hazards, and ensure proper use of traffic control devices and personal protective equipment
  • Maintain records, complete reports, and provide basic information and customer service to the public while working collaboratively as part of a team
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two years of infrastructure construction experience that includes experience in the operation of construction vehicles and equipment
  • Michigan CDL Driver’s License, Class A with Tanker “N” endorsement within six months of date of employment
  • State of Michigan Municipal Drinking Water Certification (level S4) within two years of date of employment
Hourly pay range

$22.40 – $28.62 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
