Master Tool and Die Maker

Responsibilities

• Operate lathe
• Operate milling machines
• Operate drills and grinders
• Operate misc. Die and mold equipment
• Build/Modify various prototypes/production molds, dies and misc. tooling
• Certify work against blueprints
• Solder, braze, and weld materials
• Repair damaged or worn tooling: molds, punch/Notch die sets
• Troubleshoot tooling in production process
• Layout, cut, and assemble extrusion dies and/or make necessary repairs
• Proficient use of metal spray and resin
• Operate miscellaneous equipment as instructed
• Perform quality checks or inspections, including required charting
• Comply with all safety rules and procedures
• Perform necessary clean‑up

• Demonstrate ability to independently troubleshoot and solve problems with machine
• Maintain machine, change filters, belts, guides as needed
• Be able to write small programs as needed, e.g., cut keyways and holes in parts
• Be able to load the software
• Maintain and keep CNC vertical milling center (HAAS) machine clean; use advanced features like canned cycles, drilling and tapping, mirror images of parts
• Write small programs to cut cylindrical and rectangular pockets, drill and tap holes
• CNC vertical milling center (MAZAK): maintain and keep machine clean, change coolant; demonstrate ability to cut cylindrical and rectangular pockets, drill and tap holes

• Must have completed a four‑year apprenticeship program and/or a two‑year college technical degree and/or ten years in the trade

Follows instructions given by supervisor. Must work in a safe manner. Responsible for all duties performed. Understands all aspects of machinery, equipment, and tools in order to use them in the most efficient manner possible.
