Position: ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

Primary Purpose

Responsible for the overall leadership and management of the district's curriculum and instruction function. Lead the strategic planning and implementation of curriculum and instruction programs. Ensure that the development and delivery of curriculum and instructional programs are effective and efficient, incorporate district goals, and support student achievement.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

Master's degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum & Instruction Required

Superintendent Certification Recommended

Mid-Management or Principal's Certification Required

Certified T-TESS appraiser and T-PESS Required

Experience

Experience As Campus Principal Required Instructional and Program Management
  • Oversee the development and delivery of curriculum and instructional programs that incorporate district goals, accountability targets, and support improved student achievement outcomes.
  • Lead district-level decision-making to establish, review, and monitor instructional goals, objectives, and major classroom programs using collaborative processes, data analysis, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Provide system-level leadership by coordinating communication across instructional departments and overseeing, leading, supervising, and evaluating district directors and coordinators. Areas of responsibility include elementary and secondary education;
    Advanced Academics;
    Career and Technical Education (CTE);
    Professional Learning;
    Data, Assessment, and Evaluation;
    Bilingual/ESL;
    Federal Programs;
    Special Education;
    Safe and Supportive Schools and the School Counseling Program; and Alternative Education to ensure coherence, alignment, and effectiveness across instructional systems.
  • Direct district initiatives related to College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) and postsecondary readiness, including accountability measures, performance targets, program evaluation, and continuous improvement of CCMR outcomes.
  • Oversee instructional programs including, but not limited to, the Teacher Incentive Allotment, Horizons and Honors courses, Pre-Advanced Placement, Advanced Placement, Career and Technical Education, Professional Learning Communities, Dual Credit programs, Gifted and Talented programs, and Early College High School development.
  • Monitor and evaluate instructional programs using multiple data sources, including student performance, growth measures, accountability indicators, and stakeholder feedback, and recommend adjustments to improve outcomes.
  • Ensure the allocation of time, resources, instructional materials, and technology necessary to support district instructional priorities and accountability goals.
  • Collaborate with the superintendent, directors, instructional coaches, curriculum specialists, principals, and teachers to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents through systematic review aligned to TEKS, ESSA requirements, and district goals.
  • Provide and oversee high-quality professional learning aligned to district priorities, instructional needs, and accountability outcomes, including long-range planning to support continuous improvement.
  • Engage instructional staff in the evaluation and selection of instructional resources and materials that meet varied student learning needs.
  • Actively support campuses in achieving academic performance objectives, accountability targets, and improvement plans.
  • Oversee educator appraisal systems and the Teacher Incentive Allotment to support instructional effectiveness and teacher development.
  • Coordinate and monitor the Early College High School and Hill Country High School programs.
Policy, Reports, and Law
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, ESSA requirements, and local board policy related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, accountability, and student support programs.
  • Oversee accountability systems, assessment administration, data reporting, and evaluation processes to ensure accuracy, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Compile, maintain, and submit required reports, records, and documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Serve as District Coordinator for School Improvement and support Effective Schools Framework process.
Budget
