Position: Assistant Director of Center for Achievement and Learning Support

Assistant Director of Center for Achievement and Learning Support SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate LSS Learning Community (LSS LC) tutors working with students with special learning needs; coordinate and staff the LSS Focus Lab; provide individual study skills training and supportive counseling to LSS and Section 504 students; develop and facilitate one-hour weekly workshop opportunities for LSS students, co‑coordinate and implement CEALS and LSS summer experiences; participate in other aspects of CEALS program as needed, including assisting with faculty training/workshops, administration of exams in the testing center, and evaluation and provision of ADA, 504 and ESA applications and supports.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and supervise professional and peer tutors.
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and supervising CEALS Program Coordinator, CEALS Testing Center Coordinator, and CEALS Administrative Specialist.
  • Assist Director of CEALS in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and supervision of LSS Program Aides/Test Monitors, Readers, and Scribes.
  • Assist with the processing, approval and implementation of ADA and Section 504 accommodation requests, including onboarding new ADA and 504 student and re‑registering returning ADA and 504 students.
  • Assist with the provision of non‑universal Section 504 academic accommodation requests.
  • Assist with the mediation of ADA and Section 504 issues between students, faculty and administrators.
  • Assist with the processing, approval and implementation of Emotional Support Animal (ESA) student requests and inquiries.
  • Plan, organize, and complete LSS LC recruiting trips to local and regional high schools.
  • Primary responsibility for the design, coordination, and implementation of training for tutors, including identifying, securing and maintaining certifications of tutors and the tutoring program with accrediting organizations as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and supervise LSS student‑tutor registration each semester.
  • Maintain updated LSS tutoring schedules for tutors and students.
  • Approve timecards for all tutors.
  • Approve and schedule tutor attendance of classes (as needed) and preparation time.
  • Counsel students regarding time management, study skills, and strategies.
  • Coordinate and implement mediation of problems between students and tutors.
  • Assist LSS tutors in developing and implementing individual instructional plans for students.
  • Manage and monitor tutoring budget in compliance with approved expenditures.
  • Develop and implement relevant policies regarding tutoring.
  • Monitor and document LSS student tutoring attendance and respond in accordance with department policies.
  • Participate in interviews with LSS LC applicants and provide input in admission decisions.
  • Participate in other aspects of CEALS operations and initiatives as required.
  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of the LSS Focus Lab, including the recruitment, hiring and supervision of Focus Lab staff, the monitoring of required Focus Lab attendance, the design of the Focus Lab space, and Focus Lab staff support/training.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of CEALS summer experiences.
  • Maintain college office safety to ensure that all filing cabinet drawers are shut when not in use, cords are not across floor without being securely fastened down, all walkways remain clear in the office and hallway with no items hanging off edges or coming out from under the tables, and that chairs are placed in unobtrusive areas.
  • Act to facilitate good communication between employees, clients, and management through interpersonal and professional communication techniques.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality concerning all matters in LSS. Does not discuss in any manner any information obtained through work in the office.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • Attendance at various institution functions (e.g., Schreiner Saturdays, Mountaineer Days) is expected.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time by the Director of CEALS.
