Environmental Engineer
Facility Operator (Monday through Friday) – Kerrville, TX
Under the direction of the Field Supervisor, this role supports the operation of water production facilities, wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, booster stations, distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems.
Essential Duties (Primary Duties and Responsibilities)- Maintain equipment at assigned water production facilities and booster stations.
- Operate and maintain distribution systems including mains, valves, hydrants, and service lines.
- Maintain equipment at wastewater treatment facilities and lift stations.
- Operate and maintain sewer collection systems including mains and pump stations.
- Troubleshoot and repair service piping and related equipment.
- Perform routine water quality analysis per established procedures.
- Make operational adjustments to comply with state and federal water quality standards.
- Adjust chemical treatment to ensure water quality meets standards, calculating ratios and dosages.
- Complete customer service work orders, update documentation, and close work orders as per department policies.
- Perform all tasks safely, professionally, and in accordance with company policies, local, state, and federal laws.
- Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
- Minimum license requirement of C Water or C Wastewater for FO I; dual licensing required for FO II (C Water and C Wastewater) or FO III (B or above Water and B or above Wastewater).
- Reverse osmosis (RO) and M experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity with computers/tablets and basic operation of database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow operating instructions written and verbal.
- Mathematical ability to perform calculations for ratios, dosages, volumetric calculations required for wastewater and water treatment plants.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of the need to prevent wastewater pollution of area waters.
- Understand and maintain process operations through computer-controlled equipment.
- Team player capable of multi-tasking in an effective team environment.
- Subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet/humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dust, mists, gases, and poor ventilation.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Travel to work sites of Essential Utilities or other constituencies.
- Availability for on-call nights and weekends to support a 24 hour 7 day operation.
