HSCS is comprised of nine psychiatric hospitals, one youth residential treatment facility, and thirteen state supported living centers. The psychiatric hospitals are a hub of excellence for forensic mental health and complex psychiatric care, with all facilities accredited by The Joint Commission. - Under direct supervision of the Nurse Administrator / Nurse Manager, observe, assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate outcomes and document all aspects of patient care.
- Coordinate scheduling within assigned areas; provide primary proactive management for the service area during the assigned shift.
- Supervise, counsel, and evaluate other nursing staff; collaborate with the Nurse Coordinator, other Nurse Managers, and MH Supervisor/Specialist to ensure 24‑hour continuity of care and assume duties of the Nurse Coordinator during absence.
- Provide direct nursing care to individual patients as needed; maintain flexibility in work schedule and exercise independent judgment.
- Participate in disaster response and Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation as required, which may involve alternate shift patterns or locations.
- May be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed evenings, nights, weekends, or at maximum‑security locations.
- Perform other duties as assigned, such as attending mandatory trainings and ongoing in‑service education.
- Perform duties outlined in Essential Job Functions—assessment, planning, intervention, documentation, staff coordination, admission process facilitation, execution of medical orders, patient education, implementation of restraints and safety protocols, participation in abuse and neglect process, performance improvement teams, and more.
- Knowledge of recognized American Nurses Association Nursing Standards.
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act.
- Skills in supervisory and management techniques.
- Skill to perform CPR, agency‑approved aggression management and restraint techniques, and emergency care in a medical or psychiatric emergency.
