Salary Range: $3,409.83 – $5,094.16 per month

Job Description

Perform highly advanced restoration, renovation, building maintenance, and construction work in a designated skilled trade. Responsibilities include renovation, restoration, alteration, inspections, adjustments, installations, maintenance, and repair of buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment. Requisition materials and supplies; maintain records; process work orders, projects, and material requisitions. Other duties include participation in disaster response/continuity of operations as required. Eligible for additional pay on evenings, nights, weekends, or maximum security locations.

Job Functions
  • Perform inspections, adjustments, maintenance, and repair work on building systems, doors, door locks, hardware, perimeter fencing.
  • Maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair fire alarm and sprinkler systems, carpentry, painting, and electrical components.
  • Evaluate work to determine best methods for maintenance and repair.
  • Perform repairs and renovations, design projects to conform with applicable codes and standards.
  • Select appropriate materials, identify required tools and manpower, conduct in‑process inspections.
  • Act as lead worker on construction, maintenance, or repair projects; establish schedules and assign staff.
  • Maintain safe, uninterrupted services to campus operations and programs.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and test safety equipment as necessary.
  • Accurately process paperwork and maintain records on work orders, projects, and material requisitions.
  • Operate machinery such as backhoes, forklifts, etc., as required.
  • Train others on proper procedures; maintain training records.
  • Participate in disaster response and/or continuity of operations (COOP) activities as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and operations of buildings, building systems, and grounds.
  • Knowledge of electronics, boilers, painting, plastering, carpentry, building materials, plumbing, electrical fixtures, welding procedures, HVAC, sanitation, and refrigeration.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety, fire, and safety regulations.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
  • Skill in preventative maintenance and inspections of buildings and building systems.
  • Ability to perform maintenance, follow instructions, estimate materials, and apply proper methods and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, or sketches.
  • Ability to organize preventive maintenance programs.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with co‑workers and other facility staff.
  • Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and use good judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally or in writing with other members of the maintenance and facility team.
Qualifications

Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain one within 90 days of hire. Applicants with an out‑of‑state license must provide a certified driving record. Eligible driving record is required per HHSC Fleet Management policy.

Minimum three (3) years of experience in construction, maintenance, or equipment/vehicle repair work (e.g., electrical, plumbing, masonry, mechanical equipment, locksmithing, painting, motor vehicle maintenance, grounds keeping, equipment maintenance, HVAC, carpentry, welding, electronic cabling). Combination of trades totaling three (3) years is acceptable.

All applicants must be at least 18 years of age; certain positions may require 21 years of age.
