Chief Deputy Clerk 1
(salary range 14) p
rovides professional and technical support to the Clerk of Court in the administration of the Ketchikan Trial Court, including caseflow, courtroom, jury, financial, and customer service operations. Ensures compliance with court rules, statutes, policies, and procedures; assists with developing and implementing local practices; and supports court-wide projects and process improvements.
Supervises, trains, and evaluates in-court clerks; monitors workflow and case processing; assists with personnel matters and staff concerns; and provides coverage for court operations as needed. Serves as Clerk of Court in their absence and assumes associated administrative and supervisory responsibilities.
Manages court cases from opening through closure, reviews filings, processes judicial assignments, schedules hearings and trials, monitors motions and deadlines, maintains case files, processes appeals and bankruptcy notices, and distributes court orders and judgments. Provides front-counter and telephone customer service, processes filings and payments, and assists the public, attorneys, judges, and court staff with court-related matters.
* Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency may receive consideration for an advance step placement.
* Personnel rules will be applied to determine step placement for the successful internal candidate.
The Work HoursFull-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Minimum QualificationsA high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND two years of technical or professional legal work experience.
