Job Summary The purpose of this position is to deliver culturally sensitive, competent behavioral health services to clients under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Director. This position will determine the nature of client’s situation, initiate treatment plan, provide individual and group counseling, facilitate all aspects of outpatient treatment, and document progress. Clinician will be responsible for general coordination of counseling services and have sufficient personal mobility to complete field work at various locations.

Position will require flexible work schedule to include evening and weekend hours as necessary.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The Psychologist will demonstrate competency in utilizing diagnostic tools for assessment of mental illness and co-occurring disorders.

Administer psychological testing, complete diagnostics, and prepare written reports as required.

Perform screenings, intake and assessment; interview client, family members, and others as necessary; assess medical, emotional and social information.

Provide referrals to appropriate treatment agencies and other related services as necessary.

Develop individualized treatment plans with measurable goals and objectives, and provide timely and thorough documentation in compliance with Department, State, and Federal policies and regulations.

Work effectively with other community and State agencies to provide a collaborative continuum of care for mutual clients.

Provide information and outreach intervention services to Tribal members as requested.

Provide services including individual, family and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and rehabilitation services as necessary.

Follow professional code of ethics including confidentiality, individual rights, professional and legal issues in providing services.

Participate in required clinical staffing and weekly supervision within the Behavioral Health Department as well as with other outside agencies as needed.

Complete all assignments with considerable independence, under the supervision of the Director and Clinical Supervisor. Non-licensed psychologists, or psychologist candidates, will complete assignments under the direct supervision of a licensed Clinical Psychologist.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of State and Federal guidelines for clinical programs and “best practice” techniques;

Knowledge of social problems experienced by Alaska Natives and American Indians;

Knowledge of alcohol and substance abuse services available in the community and some familiar with state-wide services;

Knowledge of screening and identification of symptoms of alcohol/drug abuse and withdrawal;

Knowledge and ability to carry out federal confidentiality rules for clients seeking substance abuse services;

Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA);

Skill in utilizing diagnostic tools for assessment and diagnostic purposes;

Skill to operate software programs;

Ability to provide behavioral health treatment services in a clinical and community-based setting;

Ability to exercise mature judgment in evaluating specific situations and recommending solutions;

Ability to listen, observe, and record a variety of information and situations;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with clients, peers, public and private agencies, Tribal members, and the general public;

Ability to communicate professionally over the telephone and in person in a positive and clear manner;

Ability to manage multiple tasks, including telephone, computer operations and in-person visits simultaneously;

Ability to take verbal instruction and complete assigned project by established deadline;

Ability to be flexible in order to perform at the highest level as a team…
