Peace Health is seeking an RN‑ICU for a full‑time, 0.90 FTE night position in Ketchikan, Alaska. Salary range: $44.27–$71.09. Hiring rate depends on education, training, work experience, terms of applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job SummaryPeace Health Ketchikan Medical Center, a Critical Access Hospital established in 1923, provides state‑of‑the‑art care in a setting known for its natural beauty and rich Alaska Native culture. The RN‑ICU will deliver professional nursing direct patient care, promote a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach, and support quality improvement initiatives.
Essential Functions- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care needs.
- Document patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
- Direct and delegate care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
- Ensure own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of established hospital policies, procedures, and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection prevention programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
- Required:
Degree from an accredited school of nursing. - Preferred:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Experience
- Required:
Minimum of 1 year clinical experience as a staff nurse in an ICU.
Credentials
- Required:
Registered Nurse licensure. - Required:
Basic Life Support upon hire. - Required:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 6 months of hire or transfer date. - Required:
NIHSS within 6 months of hire or transfer date.
Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of age‑specific principles, growth and development, and life stages to meet each patient’s needs (Required).
- Demonstrated ability to promote a positive interpersonal, patient‑centered work environment (Required).
- Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy, and procedures (Required).
- Basic computer skills (Required).
Physical demands and environmental conditions:
- Patient handling: no greater than 35 lbs. without assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
- Fine motor skills required for medical equipment manipulation and precise procedures.
- Push/Pull: frequently up to 45 lbs. force (e.g., medical carts).
- Hands‑on CPR requiring 100–125 lbs. of force for at least 20 minutes (frequency seldom or occasionally).
- Ability to move around the area with frequent sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, and kneeling.
- Non‑patient lifting: up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
- Tasks performed in a noisy environment.
- Vision and hearing within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
