Peace Health is seeking a Security Officer – Facilities for a full‑time, 1.00 FTE, variable position. The salary range is $24.01 – $36.01. Hiring depends on education, training, work experience, collective bargaining agreement terms, seniority, and other factors.
Job SummaryThe Security Officer is responsible for providing safety and security services that require regular interactions with patients, visitors, caregivers and clinicians in highly diverse and complex situations. They interact with local law enforcement to provide information, clarify events, and coordinate emergency protocols. They perform internal and external security patrol of assigned hospitals and/or clinics; dispatch; and access control as assigned.
Essential Functions- Provides safety and security services, including patrolling grounds, parking lots, buildings, securing entryways and exits, inspecting safety features such as fire extinguishers and water valves, responding to all codes, addressing trespassing concerns, assisting out‑of‑control patients, and utilizing electronic checkpoints.
- Provides stand‑by service or escort services for protection of caregivers or patients as needed.
- Provides courtesy services such as directions, locksmith functions, jump‑starts, tire changes, reporting vehicles with lights on, and assisting families in times of crisis.
- Provides non‑violent physical crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques to neutralize extreme situations and mitigate negative outcomes.
- Provides crowd control during events resulting in an influx of patients and/or visitors.
- Coordinates information, clarifies events and emergency protocols in collaboration with external safety and law‑enforcement agencies.
- Responds to all emergency situations and applies appropriate protocols for code, disaster (command center), ETO exposure, fire, flood, hazardous spills, and all code situations.
- May assist flight crew and ground crew with Life Flight/Airlift NW transports and secure the landing pad.
- Ensures adherence to protocols; completes, files and maintains correct documentation and reports, monitors visitor permits, and assists with maintaining building access control using the computerized badge‑door system.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma (Preferred) or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years required: military or civilian security or law‑enforcement experience.
- Preferred: healthcare facility security experience.
- Required:
complete CPI/De‑escalation training within 180 days of employment.
- Required within 180 days: IAHSS – Basic and.
- Required:

Fingerprinting – State of Alaska for positions in Alaska.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Required).
- Ability to formulate a plan of action, carry it out with control, and apply crisis intervention and de‑escalation skills (Required).
- Ability to perform data entry as necessary (Required).
- Good physical condition to walk, run and lift as needed (Required).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel (Required).
- Acceptable driving record in accordance with the Peace Health Motor Vehicle Safety Policy (Required).
If assigned location requires the use of tasers, successfully pass the Taser Training Program. After successful completion, officers will be required to carry the taser while on duty.
