Job Description

Peace Health is seeking a Security Officer – Security Parking for a full‑time, 1.00 FTE, variable position. Salary range: $24.01 – $36.01 per hour. The hiring rate depends on factors such as education, training, experience, collective bargaining agreement terms, seniority, etc.

Job Summary

The Security Officer is responsible for providing safety and security services through regular interactions with patients, visitors, caregivers, and clinicians in diverse situations. Responsibilities include coordinating with local law enforcement, conducting internal and external security patrols, dispatch, and access control.

Essential Functions
  • Patrol grounds, parking lots, buildings; secure entryways and exits; address conduct issues, violations of policy, property damage; inspect safety features; respond to codes; assist with out‑of‑control patients; use electronic checkpoints.
  • Provide stand‑by service or escort services to protect caregivers or patients as needed.
  • Offer courtesy services such as directions, locksmith functions, jump‑starts, tire changes, reporting vehicles with lights on, and assist families in crisis.
  • Perform non‑violent physical crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques to neutralize extreme situations and mitigate negative outcomes.
  • Control crowds during events resulting in influx of patients or visitors.
  • Coordinate information, clarification of events, and emergency protocols with external safety and law‑enforcement agencies.
  • Respond to all emergency situations and apply appropriate protocols for Code, Disaster (command center), ETO Exposure, Fire, Flood, Hazardous spills, and other code situations.
  • Assist flight crew and ground crew with Life Flight/Airlift NW transports and secure the landing pad.
  • Ensure adherence to protocols; file and maintain correct documentation, file reports, monitor visitor permits, and assist in maintaining building access control using the computerized badge/door system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma (Preferred) or equivalent.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of military or civilian security or law‑enforcement experience.
  • Preferred:
    Healthcare facility security experience.
  • Required:

    Complete CPI/De‑escalation training within 180 days of employment.

Credentials

  • Complete IAHSS – Basic within 180 days of hire.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Basic Life Support upon hire.
  • Fingerprinting – State of Alaska for positions in Alaska.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Required).
  • Ability to formulate a plan of action, carry it out with control, and apply crisis intervention and de‑escalation skills (Required).
  • Ability to perform data entry as necessary (Required).
  • Good physical condition to walk, run and lift as needed (Required).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel (Required).
  • Acceptable driving record in accordance with the Peace Health Motor Vehicle Safety Policy (Required).
Department / Location Specific Notes
  • If assigned location requires the use of tasers, successfully pass Taser Training Program. After completion, officers will be required to carry the taser while on duty.
  • System Support Services – Public Safety Security: BLS not required.

Lifting

  • Fine motor skills to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Child Care Attendant:
    Ability to move around with occasional sitting. Lift/carrying up to 25 lbs occasionally; push/pull up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, reaching, grasping.
  • Occasional push/pull up to 50 lbs; occasional reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, grasping.
  • Security:
    Ability to move around with occasional sitting; continuous movement. Lifting/carrying frequent up to 10 lbs; occasional up to 50 lbs.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
  • Child Care Attendant:
    Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
  • Exposure to outside temperatures (seasonal).
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Security:
    Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
