JOB SUMMARY

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on heavy construction vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Reporting to the Fleet Shop General Foreman and Lead Mechanic, this role services a wide range of equipment, including bulldozers, cranes, front-end loaders, motor graders, tractor-trailers, water trucks, and other construction vehicles.

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will work in a shop or field environment, depending on operational needs. Previous experience working in a heavy equipment shop, in the field, or both is required. The position requires strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, adherence to safety and maintenance standards, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The mechanic may also provide guidance and training to apprentice mechanics and other personnel involved in equipment inspection, maintenance, and repair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Inspect heavy construction vehicles and equipment to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and other operational malfunctions.

Perform maintenance and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment, including bulldozers, cranes, front-end loaders, motor graders, tractor-trailers, water trucks, and other construction vehicles.

Troubleshoot, adjust, repair, and replace major components and systems, including engines, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering, and transmissions.

Disassemble, repair, and reassemble vehicle and equipment components using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and diagnostic equipment.

Perform preventive maintenance services, including lubrication, fluid changes, inspections, and scheduled maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and service life.

Operate vehicles and heavy equipment to diagnose mechanical issues, verify repairs, and ensure safe and efficient operation.

Perform maintenance and repair work in arctic and other extreme weather conditions while adhering to established safety procedures.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly cleaned, maintained, and stored.

Assist with maintaining parts, materials, and supply inventories to support fleet maintenance operations.

Complete maintenance records, repair documentation, and other required reports accurately and in a timely manner.

Follow all applicable safety regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures while performing assigned duties.

Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.

Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

Other duties will be assigned to this position as needed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

A valid (U.S issued) Driver’s License is required.

A North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification is required.
