Protective Service Specialist 1/2/3 – Ketchikan, Alaska
State of Alaska, Department of Family and Community Services, Office of Children's Services (OCS) is recruiting for a full‑time Protective Service Specialist in Ketchikan. This position is open only to Alaska residents.
What You Will Be Doing- Investigate reports of child abuse and/or neglect.
- Prepare plans for intervention, including family cooperation and ensuring child safety.
- Gather information about family dynamics and develop strategies to address protective factors.
- Facilitate placement of children with relatives or licensed foster homes when applicable.
- Provide ongoing in‑home services and support to families.
- Write and submit reports to the court.
- Work closely with Tribal and community partners.
- Maintain frequent face‑to‑face and telephonic contact with parents and caregivers of children in custody.
- Make referrals to other service providers and agencies.

3) – apply relevant principles and regulations related to specialized expertise.
Educational and experiential background typically includes training in social science, behavioral science, health science, guidance and counseling, or a closely related field, and experience providing assistance, information, or referrals in child, adult, family, or group case management or related social services.

Working EnvironmentField‑based work requiring after‑hours, on‑call, and holiday coverage. Travel is required 0–2 times a month or 0–2 times a year, including short or overnight travel, and may involve small aircraft in outlying areas.
