Mobile Mechanic

Overview

You’ll be part of the Northampton cluster, covering areas like Northampton, Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough, Daventry, Towcester, Rushden. You’ll work through a clearly planned schedule of appointments – no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

From day one you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use your technical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again – safely, quickly and confidently.

• Perform routine servicing.
• Conduct diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment.
• Carry out in‑depth repairs normally completed in a workshop.
• Give member advice and recommendations based on your inspection.
• Conduct vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards.

• Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent).
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles.
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

SMR is structured – you’re not reacting to breakdowns but delivering planned work that you can prepare for. It’s the ideal role for techs who want variety and independence without the reactive nature of Patrol.

• A competitive base salary of £40,178, with on‑target earnings up to £52,000.

• 40 hours per week, with core hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and one Saturday in four.
• Full‑time 40‑hour week, with Monday‑Saturday availability (8 am‑8 pm).
