Overview
Kettering is the place to be for all things ice. Be a part of a great team and use your knowledge of ice skating to help community members build skills that will last a lifetime. The City of Kettering’s Parks Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is recruiting Temporary Part-Time Ice Arena Instructor positions for the Kettering Ice Arena. These positions are responsible for instructing Learn to Skate USA ice skating group classes, assisting in ice arena specialty events, and City of Kettering related ice shows.
Compensation ranges from $12.00 to $28.05 per hour. Entry rate is contingent upon candidate’s related skills, knowledge, and abilities. These temporary positions may work up to 28 hours per week year-round.
- Instruct Learn to Skate USA group classes at various levels.
- Teach proper ice skating skills while maintaining a safe, encouraging environment.
- Organize class activities; maintain class rosters and attendance records.
- Evaluate skaters on test day and complete appropriate report cards and certificates.
- Assist with class setup and cleanup; participate in ice shows, exhibitions, and arena specialty events.
- Choreograph or assist in choreographing ice show numbers; assist where needed in ice shows and exhibitions.
- Hold certification in First Aid/CPR and pass Learn to Skate USA background check.
- Maintain a professional demeanor on and off the ice; communicate with skaters, parents, Learn to Skate coordinator, and ice arena staff in a positive manner.
- Regular and predictable on-site attendance with availability to work Wednesday and Saturday lesson times; ability to skate at least 3 hours per class day; available to sub when needed; attend monthly in-service meetings.
- Promote the City of Kettering group class program and adhere to department policies and procedures.
- Establish effective working relationships with skaters, instructors, parents, Learn to Skate coordinator, City staff, volunteers, and the general public in a positive manner.
- Possess current knowledge of the Learn to Skate program and ice skating fundamentals.
- Ability to ice skate, teach required skating skills, and assist skaters of all levels, abilities, and ages.
- Ability to maintain and organize class records and documents; effectively communicate with skaters, parents, arena staff, and patrons in a positive professional manner.
- Some experience is preferred but not required; CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification is preferred (will be provided if not current) or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Must possess valid Ohio Driver’s License.
