GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This position supports the Wyoming Department of Education's (WDE)'s Special Education Programs division's requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 2004 (IDEA 2004) in providing monitoring, technical assistance (TA) and professional development (PD) to district staff through the managing, planning, coordination, and evaluation of improvement activities and division initiatives which facilitate the improved academic and functional outcomes for students with disabilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist the Special Education Programs division with all general supervision responsibilities
  • Monitor local education agencies (LEA) for results-driven accountability and compliance in alignment with federal and state regulations
  • Analyze data, file reviews, write reports, develop corrective action plans (CAPs), and track CAPs
  • Monitor indicators, provide technical assistance, and plan professional development for LEAs
  • Take a leadership role in a special initiative benefiting students with disabilities, these initiatives must be approved by the supervisor and Division Director
  • Other duties as assigned
PREFERENCES

Preference may be given to individuals with education, special education, and/or education leadership experiences. Knowledge of data systems, assessment, special education, and professional development is also preferred.

KNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge of special education requirements, systems, and processes
  • Relevant experience in developing continuous improvement systems and processes
  • Knowledge of monitoring systems and processes
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Skills to work with diverse groups and coordinate multiple projects and deadlines
  • Skills to facilitate meetings, work sessions, and other presentations to achieve established outcomes and objectives
  • Knowledge of interpersonal communications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Education)

Experience: 1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at an Education Program Specialist level.

OR

Education & Experience Substitution: 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at an Education Program Specialist level.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.
  • Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
NOTES
  • FLSA:
    Exempt
  • Successful applicants must reside in Wyoming or maintain a primary residence within a 100-mile radius of Cheyenne for the duration of their employment with the Wyoming Department of Education
  • This position offers full-time telework, with occasional required in-office attendance
  • Applicants may be asked to provide transcripts of any relevant coursework at the time of the interview or hire
  • Travel is estimated to be 25%
  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation
