Responsibilities & RequirementsClinically trained minister responsible for providing spiritual care to our primary customers, partners, and team members. Participates as a member of the healthcare team in evaluating spiritual needs of patients and providing appropriate interventions to meet such needs. Fosters a sense of mission that enhances a culture of trust, experience of belonging, and a sense of mission within the hospital and the healthcare team.
Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
- Master's degree in the theological or pastoral field or equivalent
- Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education
- Other
- Ordination/licensure as minister in good standing with the SDA Church
- Personal commitment to God.
- Personal integrity, emotional stability, sound physical health, and an ability to work under stress.
- Effectively relates to persons of diverse religious, educational, and cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrates ability to earn respect of nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
- Demonstrates KH core values of belonging, wholeness, excellence, learning and leadership.
- Assess emotional and spiritual needs of staff and patients and provide appropriate interventions.
- Receive referrals, and follow up within 24 hours.
- Develop a pastoral care plan by identifying objectives, interventions and outcomes
- Manage on-call duty (nights, weekends, holidays)
- Recruit and manage volunteers
- Conduct patient visitation to meet the KH goals
- Participate in patient care rounds
- Communicate appropriate information to the interdisciplinary team. Be intentionally part of the interdisciplinary team.
- Educate staff on the role and function of the chaplain
- Provide support to staff, demonstrating compassion and effective leadership
- Coordinate worship and religious services for special dates.
- Lead worship services and devotionals for staff.
- Provide grief and loss support to patients and staff.
- Be involved in the local Ministerial Association and/or a Service Club.
- Provide one on one Pastoral Counseling to staff
- Lead and/or coordinate support groups
- Lead and support families with End of Life issues, funeral and bereavement services.
- Manage the Care Ambassador program recruiting and in-service
- Be part of the back-up on-call schedule to support our KH chaplains.
- Assist in the education of CPE residents and interns as indicated
- Other duties as assigned
- Congregational pastoral experience preferred.
- Experience as a hospital chaplain preferred.
- Board certification preferred
