The Activities Aide is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, and implementation of recreational and therapeutic activities for residents in a long-term care or assisted living facility. The goal is to enhance residents' quality of life through social, physical, emotional, and cognitive stimulation.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in activity planning: plan and organize daily, weekly, and monthly activity schedules that cater to residents' physical, mental, and social well-being, and provide input on new activities based on interests and abilities.
- Lead and facilitate activities: set up, lead, and oversee group activities such as games, arts and crafts, music sessions, exercise programs, and special events; encourage participation and adapt activities for different mobility and cognitive levels.
- Resident interaction: build relationships with residents, monitor them during activities to ensure safety and well-being, and provide feedback to the Activities Director about participation, behavior, and mood changes.
- Documentation: assist in documenting resident attendance, preferences, and participation levels, keeping accurate records per facility policies and regulatory requirements.
- Set-up and clean-up: prepare activity spaces, gather supplies, maintain a safe environment, and clean up after activities.
- Special event support: help organize and run special events such as holiday celebrations, outings, or family nights, coordinating with volunteers, family members, and other staff.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. - Experience:
Preferred (but not required) previous experience in activities coordination, recreation, or working with the elderly in a healthcare or community setting. - Skills:
strong interpersonal and communication skills; patience, empathy, caring attitude toward older adults; ability to work independently and as part of a team; creativity and enthusiasm for engaging activities; basic computer skills for documentation.
