Water Reclamation Plant Operator​/Operator IN Training; OIT

About the Position

Montgomery County Environmental Services is seeking Water Reclamation Plant Operators or Operators in Training.

Western Plant, 4111 Hydraulic Road, West Carrolton, OH 45449

Third Shift, 10pm to 8am

• Operate, monitor, and record wastewater treatment processes at full performance level with general direction.
• Inspect plant equipment such as tanks, motors, pumps, blowers, grit collectors, generators, electrical panels, heating units, gauges, charts, and other equipment.
• Operate controls, pumps, valves, filters, blowers, motors, metering equipment, and chemical feed equipment; adjust processes, tanks, and equipment based on changing plant conditions; adjust chemical feed rates.
• Use a computerized monitoring system (SCADA) for data acquisition and process control; traverse steep slopes or stairs, climb ladders or enter below grade areas such as tanks, manholes, or wet wells.
• Apply NPDES permit requirements and limits to daily work; perform sampling, process control tests, lab analyses, and field measurements.
• Operate and maintain wastewater analytical equipment and samplers; run tests such as pH, solids, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, phosphorus, and chlorine; collect plant and field samples; complete written and electronic record keeping.
• Use computer systems including Microsoft Office products, SCADA, CMMS, and LIMS.
• Perform preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment (greasing, valve exercising, cleaning/changing filters and strainers, calibrating instruments, cleaning tanks and weirs). Assist with skilled mechanical repair of plant equipment.
• Perform general custodial work as necessary; keep work areas clean, and clean and paint equipment.
• Operate county motor vehicle, Gator, and forklift.
• Perform related duties as required.

• Equivalent to a high school diploma.
• One (1) year of post - high school education in earth sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, or equivalent) or two (2) years of related work experience in wastewater treatment or collection, water treatment, or distribution, or alternative evidence of the Minimum Class Requirements.
• Must hold Class I operator certification upon appointment.

• Same minimum qualification as above.
• Must have a current valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Must maintain Class I Ohio operator certification.

Maintain Class I Ohio operator certification and obtain the Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater Works license within three (3) years from hire date. Upon obtaining Class I certification, the employee will automatically be reassigned to Water Reclamation Plant Operator classification.
