JOB SUMMARY:

Assists nurses to provide nursing care to residents according to physicians’ orders and in conformance with recognized practices, established standards and administrative policies.

MAJOR

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Makes rounds to check conditions of residents according to schedule.
2. Assists residents with the activities of daily living.
3. Observes and reports adverse signs, symptoms and/or conditions of residents
4. Directs and assists residents as needed; directs and assists residents to dining room, assist with seating, serving and cutting food, serving beverages, salads, etc., and feeding resident.
5. Answers call lights and responds to resident needs in a timely, efficient and professional manner.
6. Reports all incidents; completes reports as needed.
7. Reports changes and information regarding residents to the nurse or Assisted Living Administrator.
8. Maintains cleanliness and neatness of work areas.
9. Serves as an advocate for resident rights and choice.
10. Maintains confidentiality of resident care and issues.
11. Provides room service to residents as needed.
12. Strictly practices universal precautions, handwashing and general hygienic principles.
13. Records pertinent resident information in communication logs each shift.

Major Job responsibilities, continued:
14. Attends monthly staff meetings and in-services.
15. Other tasks as requested or assigned.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

All equipment and supplies necessary to fulfillment of the duties of Resident Assistant, Certified Nurse Aide, State Testes Nursing Assistant.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

Education and Experience State tested as a Nursing Assistant, with experience as a Home Health Aide; or attending school for nursing and/or classes is preferred. Capable of becoming certified in First Aid.

Licenses and Certifications Certificate for State Tested Nursing Assistant is preferred

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Knowledge of care for elderly persons with various acute and/or chronic health problems and/or dementia.

Knowledge, understanding and compassion for human behavior and the ability to relate this to the care of aged, infirm, acutely and chronically ill residents.

Ability to project credibility and assertiveness, and the ability to make mature judgments.

Knowledge of the organization, function, policies, procedures and regulations of the facility, and the ability to apply these with professionalism.

Ability to identify and anticipate the needs of residents and staff, and to intervene or refer to the proper authority as appropriate.

Ability to work autonomously, and to react and perform appropriately during emergencies.

Ability to assess residents’ conditions and provide information to physicians necessary for diagnostic and therapeutic intervention.
