Locate Technician

Overview

Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including, but not limited to, telephone communication lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines and sewer lines. This position ensures the area complies with client and state requirements by observing, locating, marking and documenting underground and exposed utility locations. The technician will be dispatched to locate and verify utility information for customers.

The role may be performed independently or in a team under the supervision of a manager.

• Locate underground facilities by using a transmitter and connecting to buried facilities or pedestals.
• Work in and traverse various terrains in construction zones and in residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas under all weather conditions.
• Interpret job order tickets, blueprints and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
• Perform locates and emergency/on-call locates during regular, overtime and holiday hours as necessary to meet customer needs.
• Perform work in a timely, professional and efficient manner while communicating effectively with customers, co-employees and third parties.
• Communicate with management, contractors and utility customers to ensure a damage-free environment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of necessary technology and tools; work with others in a supervised team environment.

• High School Diploma or GED
• State issued driver’s license
• Problem-solving ability
• Ability to read, interpret and decipher multiple types of prints
• Vacuum truck experience (A+)
• Ability to lift over 50 lbs
• Ability to walk/stand for extended periods
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to read and interpret prints at a high level
• Background screening (no violations within the last 5 years)
• DOT drug test required
