Join our award‑winning Parks Recreation and Cultural Arts team as a part‑time Iceguard. We need your energy and positive attitude to provide high‑quality customer service at the Kettering Ice Arena. This position monitors the arena area to prevent accidents, provides assistance and customer service to all participants and patrons, ensures that ice arena rules are enforced, safety issues are addressed and the facility remains clean.
Compensation:
Pay range is $11.10 to $13.05 per hour. Entry rate is contingent upon candidate’s related skills, knowledge and abilities.
- Responsible for the safety of all patrons; enforce all rules and regulations with proper diplomacy.
- Protect and care for arena property and equipment; patch any holes in the ice.
- Maintain control of flow on the ice surface in case of an injury.
- Report all accidents and incidents and possess thorough knowledge of policies and procedures.
- Bring all discipline problems to the attention of the Coordinator on Duty.
- Sharpen skates and maintain proper order of all skates as directed by the Skate Instruction Coordinator, Assistant Arena Coordinator or Ice Arena Manager.
- Perform all cleaning duties as requested by the Assistant Arena Coordinator and Ice Arena Manager.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled staff meetings and in‑service trainings.
- Be aware of and enforce all City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts policies and guidelines.
- Carries out any assigned responsibilities relating to the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department as directed by the Coordinator, Supervisor or designee.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Must possess a proven proficiency in skating. Must be dependable, conscientious, alert, even‑tempered and able to work well with staff and the public.
Must be able to verbally communicate to the public and handle facility and patron emergencies and altercations in an effective way.
Must be personable and willing to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff members, volunteers and the general public.
Some experience preferred, but not required. CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification preferred. CPR training and certification provided if needed. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
