Overview

The City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department are recruiting to fill a temporary part-time Van Driver position for the Kettering Charles I. Lathrem Senior Center (CIL). This hourly position is responsible for safely transporting passengers to and from their homes. The position may work up to 28 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Compensation

Pay range is $11.40 to $13.80 per hour. Entry rate is contingent upon candidate's related skills, knowledge and abilities.

Responsibilities
  • Operates the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner including maintaining the vehicle cleanliness, checking the vehicle for any damage before beginning assigned route and reporting vehicle problems or accidents to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Maintains adequate fuel levels in vehicles for upcoming shifts.
  • Arranges efficient routes to destinations on a daily basis and completes assigned paperwork.
  • Treats all passengers courteously and with respect.
  • Offers assistance to passengers from their homes into the vehicle, to the assigned destinations and home. The driver is not expected to lift passengers, only to offer assistance to prevent falling.
  • Assists passengers with loading and unloading packages and bags if needed.
  • Reports any passengers who do not answer their doors to the office staff.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Has awareness of and enforces all City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts policies and guidelines.
  • Carries out any assigned responsibilities relating to the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department as directed by the Coordinator, Supervisor or designee.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff members, volunteers and the general public.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.
Qualifications

Ability to be sensitive to and work effectively with senior adults. Knowledge of the safe operation of a passenger vehicle. Must be personable and willing to work a flexible schedule.

Must possess a valid Ohio drivers’ license. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
