Part-Time Youth Program Counselor

Part-Time | After-School Hours Program Setting: K-8 Aftercare / Youth Development Program

We are hiring energetic, dependable, and caring Youth Program Counselors to support aftercare programs serving K-8 students in the Key Biscayne area. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with children and want a rewarding part-time position in a fun, active, and supportive environment. Counselors are responsible for supervising students, assisting with daily programming, promoting positive behavior, and maintaining a safe and engaging environment.

IMPORTANT:
Background Screening & Clearances
Candidates must successfully complete and clear all required background screenings and program clearances prior to their first day of work. Additional required certifications and training must also be completed within the applicable time frames for the position.

What You'll Do
  • Provide direct supervision and ensure the safety of children participating in the program.
  • Assist with age-appropriate recreational and educational activities.
  • Engage students and encourage positive participation and behavior.
  • Monitor assigned groups and maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios.
  • Maintain daily attendance and other required program documentation.
  • Assist with snacks and daily program activities while following proper health and sanitation practices.
  • Document behavioral concerns or incidents when necessary.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, staff, and school/program personnel.
  • Follow established safety, emergency, and risk-management procedures.
  • Help maintain clean, organized, and safe activity areas.
  • Participate in required staff meetings and training.
What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma, GED, or high school completion in progress.
  • Previous experience working with school-aged children is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Dependable, energetic, patient, and comfortable working in an active environment.
  • Ability to plan or assist with recreational and educational activities.
  • Strong commitment to child safety and supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to complete required training and certifications.

The source description indicates 1-2 years of experience working with school-aged children is preferred, along with required safety/risk-management training, First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire, and DCF training requirements.
