Position: Recreation Assistant (Community Recreation)

Summary

Performs a variety of duties in support of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Community Recreation program including special events, recreation information/resources, command events, visiting ships or fleet support, community events, trips, tours, outings, party and picnic rental equipment, resale tickets, recreational green space management, bowling, library, Liberty, grab‑n‑go, movies, and outdoor recreation.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides customer service, information, and support of Community Recreation programs and activities; checks patron eligibility, provides information about activities, opens/closes facilities, orders/restocks supplies, prepares snack bar menu items.
  • Collects fees from customers for tickets, retail and rental items, classes, trips, via POS systems.
  • Maintains accuracy of daily sales transactions, completes Daily Activity Report (DAR) at end of each shift.
  • Assists with customer internet registrations, event registrations, and account log‑ins.
  • Checks equipment, collects rental fees, inventories items, conducts inspections upon return, notifies supervisor of damage/loss.
  • Ensures proper completion of rental or check‑out forms, follows reservation and checkout procedures.
  • Conducts inventory, maintains controls, and maintains equipment accountability.
  • Assists in administering workshops, clinics, and events in leisure and recreation skills.
  • Provides recreation experiences for day and weekend trips.
  • Performs administrative duties using computer software programs for resource inventories, patron usage, and program metrics.
  • Assists in recruitment, training, and scheduling of Community Recreation staff.
  • Supports command statement on adherence to EEO principles and policies.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, marketing, and execution of MWR programs and special events.
  • Performs entertainment and promotion scheduling, updates electronic and multimedia support tools.
  • Promotes MWR facilities and events through outreach on base; promotes use of e‑reading resources.
  • Builds partnerships with on‑base and off‑base organizations.
  • Performs community outreach and assists in proposal creation, agreement execution, follow‑up.
  • Researches and provides referral for recreational opportunities.
  • Adheres to NAVMED P‑5010 sanitation requirements.
  • Initiates and follows up on maintenance trouble calls.
  • Provides support for event set‑up and break‑down.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and pass background investigation.
  • Pass E‑Verify employment verification check.
  • Complete Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process.
  • Possess valid State driver’s license.
  • Willing to work outside regular hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays.
  • Hold C.A.R.E. training, Emergency First Responder or CPR First Aid certification, and Food Handler certification (or obtain within 90 days).
  • Reside within 50‑mile radius of hiring base (or military spouse per law).
  • Willing to work flexible schedule up to 40 hours per week.
Qualifications
  • One year of specialized experience directly related to duties described above, equivalent to the next lower level.
  • Experience in customer service and recreation activity functions.
  • Ability to organize, plan, administer special events and entertainment activities.
  • Independent work capability, sound decision‑making, effective communication.
  • Knowledge of organizational principles for leisure time activities.
  • Knowledge of Navy MWR mission and community recreation scope.
  • Knowledge of recreation activity functions, procedures, and operations.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain records, compile and organize data, perform research.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of computers, office procedures and print production.
Education

Associate's degree required if applicant does not possess required experience (6 months general + 6 months specialized).
