The Assistant Director, Academic Success & Distance Learning coordinates the organization, operation, and delivery of student support services, including accommodations and distance learning. The Assistant Director works closely with the College’s Student Success Services and Information Technology Services to provide guidance for the College’s Learning Management System. (LMS) This position supports the faculty in creating and implementing online and hybrid courses and assists in the cross-functional delivery of online courses.
The position provides limited support to the Project ACCESS program. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the Executive Director, Student Success Services.
Examples of Duties
- Assist in the strategic and annual planning process as related to the College’s mission, vision, and advocacy for distance learning, student success services, transition programs, and other special student populations. This includes grant writing and providing support for grant application(s), as requested.
- Facilitate the process of managing and revising course material by maintaining communication and coordination between instructors, deans, and information technology staff.
- Advise instructors on the adoption of best practices and guidelines for accessibility and universal design and host training workshops, as needed.
- 4. Develop high-quality, standards-based online course design.
- Coordinate training opportunities for instructors engaged in designing, instructing, and/or evaluating online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses.
- Review classes in the LMS to ensure courses are published in time for the start of each semester.
- Audit classes to ensure instructors assigned to a class in Canvas match the published course schedule.
- Work closely with subject matter experts to develop online courses using technology to deliver relevant, quality online content and engaging experiences for students.
- Provide assistance to instructors with the use of online learning technology, including, but not limited to, video conferencing, lecture capture, online communication tools, and the effective best practice uses of multimedia in the online classroom.
- Evaluate and ensure the quality, accuracy, and effectiveness of each course within the context of Quality Matters
TM and College policies and procedures. - Maintain relevant documentation to monitor and assess program performance in Project ACCESS and Distance Learning.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding distance learning, including, but not limited to, student and instructor engagement.
- Work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Student Success Services, to ensure the College provides appropriate academic and student support programs, services, and activities through online learning and hybrid courses.
- Assist with Learning Management System (LMS) operations and functions, work in collaboration with online LMS support staff, and follow up with online course-related items.
- Serve as the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC) representative for the College.
- Maintain distance learning reciprocity agreements.
- Plan and provide professional development/training for faculty who utilize the College’s LMS. Assist with the coordination of the Office of Student Accessibility Services and Project ACCESS, including but not limited to recruitment of new students, meeting with new students, meeting with current students, administering a variety of testing accommodations, monitoring student success, and reporting outcomes.
- Assist the Executive Director, Student Success Services, in the development of related online learning and hybrid course policies and procedures.
- Attend training, events, meetings, and conferences, as required.
- Required to attend Fall and Spring Graduation/Commencement ceremonies.
- Other related duties as assigned.
