Teachers who start in August earn a total of 10 days of paid leave during the year. Background Screening:
Employment for this position is contingent upon successful completion of background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse. Applicants may review important information about the screening process at:  Eligibility for Florida certification is required. FL certification in Biology Grades 6-12 and Exceptional Student Education (grades K-12) is a prerequisite for teaching in field. The Bureau of Educator Certification has developed instructional videos to guide applicants through the certification process, covering topics such as Florida's Online Educator Certification System Set-up and the Florida Teacher Certification Application.

Out-of-State Certification:
If you hold an unexpired, out-of-state, professional educator certificate in this subject area, please apply for Florida reciprocity. Biology Major:
Commonly accepted bachelor's (or higher degree) majors for a Florida temporary educator certificate include:
Bacteriology, Biology, Biological Sciences, Biomechanics, Botany, Dentistry, Doctor of Medicine, Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Genetics, Kinesiology, Life Science, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Zoology, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathy Other Majors:
For other degree majors, passing the FTCE Subject Area Exam in Biology 6-12 is required. This computer based test is 80 multiple-choice questions and 2.5 hours. Free sample questions are available here. Visit the testing website  for further details. Locate a test center. If at first you don't succeed, you may retest every 30 days. The exam costs $150, unless you have an approved Military Vet or Spouse Certification Fee Waiver or Retired First Responder Fee Waiver.
