Child and Youth Program Training and Curriculum Specialist

Overview

The Child and Youth Program (CYP) Training and Curriculum (T&C) Specialist provides and delivers a comprehensive training program to CYP professionals. This role supports the professional requirements of CYP staff, assists with implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children and youth aged 6 weeks to 18 years, and promotes school readiness and ongoing school success.

• Training – Orient new employees to the CYP system, develop training plans and schedules, arrange opportunities for management, administration, food service, and direct staff training, and provide tailored training for specific age groups. Execute the Department of Navy Standardized Module Training, maintain training records, prepare status reports, and identify additional training needs.
• Classroom/Program Support – Ensure the Navy curriculum is implemented, coordinate programming that supports physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development, evaluate classroom environments, maintain a resource library, and assist with lesson plan development. Provide feedback to staff and training needs assessments.
• Compliance – Deliver training on fire, safety, and sanitation rules, support inspections and accreditation efforts, and carry out EEO policies.
• Additional Responsibilities – In the absence of the CYP Director, assume Director responsibilities; report suspected child abuse to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services; perform other duties as assigned.

• Complete all background checks for child care positions, including fingerprint checks, Tier 1 (Child Care) check, Tier 3 if applicable, and a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check.
• Pass a pre‑employment physical and provide evidence of immunization; be free of communicable diseases.
• Possess a valid state driver’s license.
• Maintain required security clearance as needed.
• Hold and maintain certifications required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions used in DoD's Child and Youth Programs.
• Participate in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment.
• Be drug‑free; a positive test for marijuana (or any other drug tested for) will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and ineligibility to apply for DoD positions for 6 months.

• Knowledge, skill, and ability to manage a developmentally appropriate program for the age groups served.
• Background in child and youth programs, including principles, practices, and techniques of development.
• Experience with adult learning techniques and training adult learners.
• Knowledge of Federal and State laws governing child abuse detection and prevention.
• Knowledge of NAEYC, COA, NAFCC accreditation criteria, and DoD certification standards.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement a variety of programs and curricula, conduct training workshops, and provide guidance to staff.
• Emergency response skills, including evacuations and handling child illness.
• Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
• Education requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development plus 1 year of full‑time experience, or
  • 4‑year degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development plus 3 years of full‑time experience, or
  • Combination of education and 24 higher‑level semester hours in Early Childhood Education or Child Development plus 3 years of full‑time experience.
• Submit a copy of your high‑school diploma or GED, and any college transcripts showing degree awarded.
