Faculty, Marine Engineering (Welding)

The Faculty, Marine Engineering (Welding) position is a full-time, 10-month Faculty position. This position is an instructional position with duties and responsibilities which are established in accordance with State Board of Education Rules and Board of Trustee policies. Hours will vary according to class schedules. This position maintains a 37.5-hour week and reports to the Dean, Marine and Applied Sciences. All instructors are responsible for utilizing the College's learning management system as all College courses are at a minimum technology enhanced.

1. Plans, organizes and instructs assigned courses to promote student success.
2. Maintains required office hours to provide assistance to Marine Engineering, Management, and Seamanship students and for communication with administration.
3. Responsible for evaluating student learning and objective achievement and providing feedback.
4. Promotes positive student learning outcomes through effective teaching.
5. Selects appropriate materials and equipment for discipline or program use, and ensures proper care and safety in their use. 6. Submits specific course material needs for approval and procurement prior to the beginning of the academic year.
7. Adheres to and enforces the administrative policies and procedures of the College.
8. Works with other faculty to evaluate and revise existing courses and to develop new courses.
9. Assists in implementing College policies, objectives and functions in accordance with the College Mission Statement. 10. Participates in Institutional Planning and Budget process. 11. Participates and assists with accreditation efforts as assigned by supervisor. 12. Responsible for keeping current in the discipline or program areas taught. 13. Participates in staff and committee work. 14. Attends College-wide academic and staff meetings and academic official functions.

15. Maintains good relationships with community agencies and groups and participates as appropriate. 16. Participates in training as required. 17. Assists in all College recruitment & retention efforts as appropriate. 18. Attends spring Graduation/Commencement ceremony. 19. Additional duties as assigned.

Ability to deliver high quality instruction in a range of Marine Engineering courses. Ability to commit to continued effort to stay current in program area. Knowledge of College mission, policies, procedures and services. Strong student orientation and ability to work with a diverse student population. Proficient in use of marine mechanical, engineering, seamanship and especially welding technology. Ability to perform shop practices to industry standards to ensure safety of staff, students facilities and equipment.

Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge and ability in these specific areas:
Oxy-Acetylene cutting, welding and brazing, Carbon Arc cutting, blue print reading for welders, metallurgy, metal fabrication, and the following welding techniques: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, PAC, FCAW, and metal corrosion. Knowledge of CRAW preferred. Knowledge of underwater welding preferred. Knowledge of marine vessel operations (up to 100 GT) systems, repairs, and maintenance preferred. Knowledge of small watercraft operations, repair and maintenance preferred.

Associate's degree in Marine Engineering, Marine Technology or Seamanship or any Associate's degree with five years of relevant work experience or one or more of the following specific industry certifications, Marine Composites (e.g. ABYC) and/or Boat Builder (e.g. ABBRA) or any Bachelor's degree (or higher) from a qualifying field, required. Qualifying fields include any recognized academic major in Engineering, such as Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.

Bachelor's degree with demonstrated competencies, or Master's degree in discipline or Master's degree in any field with 18 graduate semester hours of prefix specific coursework in field, preferred. Three (3) years community college level or higher instructional experience in specific areas listed above. Five (5) years related work experience in field is preferred. Experience and or research in marine fatigue and corrosion preferred.

A current AWS (American Welding Society) Certified Welder Certification is required. Certifications in any or all of the following preferred:
