Purpose of Classification
The purpose of this classification is to prepare plans and specification drawings for construction projects, using mechanical and CADD drafting functions. Employees in this classification assemble and correlate data, review developers' plans, and advise customers regarding requirements for water mains and extensions. Employees also utilize and/or update GIS and GPS data. Position reports to the Utility Design Supervisor.
Essential FunctionsGathers engineering and construction field data; assembles and correlates data on water distribution systems.
Designs plans and specification drawings for FKAA projects using Autocad Civil 3D; designs and draws system upgrades for Water, Wastewater, Reclaim water and building facilities.
Reviews developers' plans for fixture values, front footage, and metering requirements. Complete water/sewer inquiries and prepares service worksheets with fees.
Reviews plans submitted by other utilities to determine complications, if any, and advises solutions. Provide as‑built drawings and/or mark FKAA utility on their plans.
Advises customers regarding pipe sizes and other requirements for water mains and water main extensions.
Maintains all material and equipment in the Design Division.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, or other documents.
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes GIS, word processing, spreadsheet, or other software programs.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Utilizes data from GIS to determine such attributes as year installed, contractor, size and material type of line.
QA/QC archived drawing information with current GIS Mapping. Must be familiar with the use of importing features from a GIS environment. Must be able to utilize file management software to organize and retrieve data in a standardized library format. Therefore, must have a basic working knowledge of the Microsoft windows environment. Reviews and updates "as built" drawings from field representatives and contractors.
Enters GPS coordinates and field data into GIS maps. Enter completed construction drawings into file management library. Performs fire hydrant flows, static and residual pressure for fire protection of commercial buildings and public facilities.
Researches and locates drawings for field maintenance workers.
Makes blueprint copies for other agencies and utilities, as well as for personnel in Engineering.
Upgrades file maps to reflect recent changes.
Creates "as-built" drawings.
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum QualificationsVocational/Technical degree with training emphasis in design engineering; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience and/or training that includes drafting and technical design utilizing recent versions of Autodesk AutoCAD and ESRI GIS; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
Must be able to communicate and comprehend the English language.
