* Job Description:
** The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee automation and software systems, primarily within secure correctional facilities where inmates play a key role in operations. This role includes managing automated controls, including environmental and electrical building automation systems (BAS), electrical and HVAC equipment, and other integrated technologies. This position ensures that all automated facility systems operate efficiently and reliably in a commercial or industrial correctional setting.
** ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
*** Serves as the Correctional Facilities point of contact for Siemens and other third-party building automation systems (BAS) or similar automation platforms.
* Manages, monitors, interprets, and adjusts controls for all automated systems, including HVAC, lighting, electronic locks, surveillance integration, and chilled water systems.
* Diagnoses and repairs faults in PLCs, DDC systems, and other automation hardware or software.
* Coordinates and schedules updates, calibrations, and vendor services for automation and control systems.
* Oversees and evaluates vendors and contractors for facility automation and software programs, ensuring compliance with county standards and correctional facility security protocols.
* Maintains logs, records, and documentation for system performance, software versions, configuration changes, and maintenance activities.
* Plans, assigns, and reviews electrical maintenance and repair work to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with applicable codes and facility regulations.
* Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains electrical and electronic systems, including power distribution, lighting, alarms, and communications.
* Provides technical guidance, mentorship, and training to maintenance personnel.
* Supports emergency maintenance operations and promptly responds to critical system failures, such as lock or HVAC issues within inmate housing areas.
* Participates in facility inspections, audits, and performance reporting to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance.
* Ensures all maintenance and automation activities adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as correctional facility protocols for access, tool control, and security.
* Supervises maintenance tasks performed by inmate labor or trustee workers, in accordance with facility procedures.
* Represents the county in meetings and performs related duties as assigned.
* Manages and maintains BAS, PLCs, DDC systems, HVAC controls, and related electrical/electronic systems to support safe and reliable facility operations.
* Troubleshoots and resolves issues across mechanical, electrical, and control systems to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure.
* Reads and interprets wiring diagrams, blueprints, and system schematics to plan, perform, and verify installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
* Utilizes Microsoft Office applications, CMMS, and other software to document work, track assets, and analyze system performance.
* Communicates and coordinates effectively with internal stakeholders and external vendors, including scheduling work, reviewing technical recommendations, and overseeing vendor performance related to automation and controls.
* Prioritizes and manages multiple automation systems, projects, and work orders, making timely decisions to meet operational needs and departmental objectives.
* Performs all duties professionally and safely within a secure correctional environment, observing facility security procedures, safety standards, and regulations
* Responsible for personally knowing and following the County’s Personnel Policies and Procedures, Administrative Instructions, Department Operating Procedures, and applicable Statutes and Regulations. Responsible for ensuring others also adhere to these standards.
