Position: Armed Federal Protective Security Officers (FPS) - Key West

This position reports to the Operations Manager; it is a full‑time role requiring dedication to federal security operations.

Responsibilities
  • Protect public figures, coordinate crime prevention activities, and guard government property.
  • Monitor federal building access control, employee and visitor identification checks, and security equipment monitoring and roving patrols of the interior and exterior of federal property.
  • Provide detailed reports on daily activities and/or incidents that may have occurred.
  • Use provided communication devices, such as two‑way radios, clearly and concisely.
  • Provide emergency response and evaluation procedures.
  • Perform CPR or first aid when needed.
  • Ensure credentials are maintained per contract requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Project Manager.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be a United States citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident who is currently a member of, or possesses a verifiable honorable discharge from, any component of the United States Armed Forces (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard).
  • Must have been issued a Social Security Card by the Social Security Administration, which bears the individual’s name and social security number.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of armed security experience or one (1) year of full‑duty law enforcement experience in a full‑service police department in a municipality, state, or federal law enforcement department within the US.
  • Minimum of two (2) years as a member of any US Armed Forces with an honorable discharge.
  • Knowledgeable and able to effectively use magnetometer and X‑ray machines.
  • Must fluently speak, read, comprehend English, and be able to compose written reports in English.
  • Must be able to qualify with a semi‑automatic firearm.
  • Strong relevant knowledge of the security industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have a customer service‑driven mindset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and present information to all levels of internal and external customers.
Physical Demands
  • PSO’s must be physically able to perform tasks in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping up to 12 hours per day, indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime; outdoor posts may require an individual to withstand extreme heat, humidity, cold, and/or severe weather (e.g., snow, sleet, rain, hail, wind).
  • Frequent contact with the public, law enforcement, and dispatch center, requiring an ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to remain on post for up to four (4) consecutive hours without sitting, eating, or receiving a break.
  • Ability to remain alert for up to 12 hours, with the ability to mentally and physically react quickly to various unexpected and dangerous situations.
  • Ability to use post‑security equipment (handheld and walk‑through metal detectors, X‑ray machine, CCTV).
  • Ability to read Post Orders, assignments, Be‑on‑the Lookout (BOLO), write reports, and respond to both routine and emergency dispatches/orders.
  • Ability to subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals or intervene in a crisis.
  • Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, climbing stairs.
Education Requirements

High School Diploma/GED

At least 2 years of college
