Job Summary

Performs various maintenance tasks involving construction and alteration repairs of NEXCOM Hospitality Group NHG buildings and equipment. Plans and lays out work in accordance with drawings, sketches, blueprints, and knowledge of construction or needed repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plumbing – Makes plumbing repairs to sinks, faucets, commodes, tanks, urinals, P‑traps, shut‑off valves, washing machines, and water supply. Installs water heaters, garbage disposals, faucets, and sinks. Involves installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility supply and disposal systems and equipment, water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers. Works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation of systems and equipment.
  • Washer/Dryer repair – Performs routine maintenance on washers and dryers, including cleaning lint ducts and vents, replacing hoses and fittings, and referring more complex problems to a supervisor.
  • HVAC – Recognizes the cause of faulty equipment and makes repairs on a variety of HVAC units. Installs equipment, recognizes faulty equipment, and repairs domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems. Works from oral instructions, blueprints, and work orders, tracing and locating defects to determine repair needed.
  • Electrical – Repairs by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures. Installs or repairs electrical systems incidental to construction or maintenance of facilities. Uses visual checks and test equipment such as test lamps, voltage testers, ammeters, and polarity testers.
  • Carpentry – Constructs, repairs, and modifies wood and wood‑substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness. Uses a variety of joining techniques and adhesives, and interprets drawings, blueprints, and specifications independently.
  • Painting – Applies coating materials by brush, roller, spray gun, or graining device, preparing surfaces, and ensuring the finish meets specified thickness, level, and decorative requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
General Experience

One year of experience that provided knowledge of general maintenance practices involving the upkeep of buildings, grounds, fixtures, equipment, etc.

Substitution of Education for Experience

One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience, up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience.

Specialized Experience

Three years of general maintenance work involving a variety of trade practices such as air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and painting. Includes knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations concerning procedures, tools, mechanical and electrified equipment, chemicals, and basic safe work practices.

Physical Requirements

Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 50 pounds. A recognized professional certification or license in one trade—plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, or painting—is preferred.
