Overview

Key West Historic Inns is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Painter to join our Engineering team. If you take pride in craftsmanship, enjoy transforming spaces, and have a passion for maintaining beautiful historic properties, we'd love to hear from you.

As a Painter, you will play an important role in preserving the appearance and character of our boutique hotel collection. You will be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying paint and finishes, repairing drywall, and ensuring guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas are maintained to the highest standards. Working closely with the Engineering team, you'll help create an inviting environment that enhances the guest experience while preserving the charm of our historic properties.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance on guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and hotel equipment to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.
  • Prepare interior and exterior surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, patching, caulking, and repairing drywall as needed.
  • Apply paint, stain, varnish, sealants, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Match paint colors and finishes to maintain consistency throughout the property.
  • Repair minor drywall damage, cracks, holes, and other surface imperfections before painting.
  • Maintain the appearance of guest rooms, public areas, offices, and back-of-house spaces through routine touch-up painting and scheduled projects.
  • Protect furniture, fixtures, flooring, and surrounding areas before beginning painting projects.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure a high-quality finish and compliance with company standards.
  • Maintain paint supplies, tools, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Follow all OSHA regulations, safety procedures, and proper handling of paints, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Assist the Engineering team with general maintenance tasks, preventive maintenance projects, and special projects as needed.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests while minimizing disruption to guests and hotel operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly dispose of materials in accordance with safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of professional painting experience in hospitality, commercial, residential, or institutional settings preferred.
  • Experience with drywall repair, surface preparation, texture matching, and finish work.
  • Knowledge of painting techniques, materials, tools, and safety practices.
  • Ability to safely operate ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and painting equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic knowledge of general building maintenance is a plus.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with guests and team members.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Must meet the minimum age requirement of the jurisdiction.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and occasional emergency call-ins as business needs require.
