Office Assistant IIIThe City and County of Honolulu is seeking motivated and reliable individuals with clerical experience for Office Assistant III positions in multiple departments and locations. This entry-level job performs clerical and office support work, independently handling complex records, documents, and reports, as well as office processes that support daily operations and public service delivery.
Current Vacancies- There are nine (9) vacancies with the Honolulu Police Department:
- Two (2) vacancies with the Professional Standards Office
- One (1) vacancy is expected to advance to Police Documents Clerk.
- One (1) vacancy is with the Administrative Investigation & Inspection Unit.
- Two (2) vacancies with the Investigative Bureau
- One (1) vacancy with the Scientific Investigation Section.
- One (1) vacancy with the Traffic Division.
- Two (2) vacancies with the Administrative Bureau
- One (1) vacancy with the Human Resources Division.
- One (1) vacancy with the Financial Division.
- One (1) vacancy with the Supportive Services Bureau, Records and Identification Division.
- One (1) vacancy with the Legislative Liaison Office.
- One (1) vacancy with the Central Patrol Bureau (District
7).
Salaries for the positions noted with an asterisk (*) will be commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval.
- Two (2) vacancies with the Professional Standards Office
- There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Design and Construction, Land Division.
- Independently review, evaluate, and process complex forms, records, and documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with established requirements.
- Research information from paper and electronic records, organize findings, and prepare clear summaries and reports.
- Create, edit, and manage documents using word processing and other office software.
- Provide information to staff and the public by explaining policies, procedures, and requirements clearly and professionally.
- May guide, train, and review the work of clerical staff to support efficient office operations.
- Other duties as assigned for the position.

Education RequirementSubstantially equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may substitute for education.
Experience RequirementTwo (2) years of clerical experience.
Competencies and Skills Needed- Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and word usage.
- Knowledge of filing methods and systems.
- Ability to keep records, summarize and analyze materials, and prepare reports.
- Ability to operate standard office machines and equipment.
- Ability to give and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to deal with others in an effective and tactful manner.
Business school or college-level credits from an accredited college or university will substitute for experience on a month-for-month basis for the required clerical experience.
