Tire Repairer
Changes and repairs tires and tubes for various types of automotive and construction type equipment; and performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class differs from that of Service Station Attendant in that the Tire Repairer changes and repairs tires and tubes of various types and sizes as a substantially full-time assignment; whereas the Service Station Attendant attends a service station and services automotive vehicles as a substantially full-time assignment, and may change and repair tires as an incidental assignment.
Examples of Duties
- changes and repairs tires and tubes for a variety of automotive, truck and construction equipment;
- operates tire changing equipment and tools;
- determines and maintains adequate inventory of tires and tubes;
- orders, receives and stocks new and recapped tires;
- drives tire repair truck and makes tire changes and repairs in the field;
- may perform as Service Station Attendant;
- performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Training and
Experience:
A combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to one (1) year of full-time experience in changing and repairing automotive and truck tires and tubes.
License Requirement:
Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license (equivalent to State of Hawaii Type
3) and prior to completion of probation, a Commercial Driver's License (Class A or
B) and a Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certificate.
Knowledge of:
Common practices, tools, materials and equipment used in changing and repairing tires of various types and sizes; hazards pertinent to the work.
Ability to:
Recognize and repair damaged tires and tubes; remove and mount tires of all sizes; operate tire changing and dismantling equipment; understand and follow safety rules and procedures, keep records; handle weights and loads.
Health and Physical Condition:
Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
