Position SummaryThis position heads the Field Consultant Unit of the Bridge Design Section, Design Branch, Highways Division, Department of Transportation. Duties and responsibilities include conducting preliminary location, type, and cost studies; preparing, supervising, and approving design computations, plan specifications, and estimates for bridges, separation structures, retaining walls, pedestrian facilities, tunnels, culverts, small buildings, and other structures; developing, preparing, reviewing, and approving construction and maintenance plans, specifications, proposals, estimate details, and computations for both State-designed and consultant-designed projects;
and performing other related duties as assigned.
- Professional License: Must possess a valid State of Hawaii Professional Engineer license AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION. The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of structural engineering, engineering mechanics, and the mechanics of materials as they relate to structural engineering design and functions, and the ability to perform and supervise structural engineering design, construction, and inspection activities.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university, or equivalent. - Engineering
Experience:
Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience; at least one year comparable to the next lower level. - Supervisory/Staff Advisory
Experience:
Must have supervisory experience/aptitude and/or staff advisory experience as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements. - Driver's License: Valid driver’s license AT THE TIME OF APPOINTMENT.
