MHPCC SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR II – Job

Position Type: Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service
Location: Maui Research and Technology Park, Maui, Hawai‘i
Salary: $8,750 – $11,300 per month
ResponsibilitiesUnder general supervision, provides intermediate level systems management support for hardware and software configurations in a large scale, high performance, and scalable production‑computing environment at the MHPCC. Assists in the management of user accounts and system configurations, develops system scripts and utilities, participates in the evaluation and resolution of system problems, and contributes to the continued availability of the computational environment.
Provides technical support for hardware and software installation, configuration, and maintenance of large UNIX based systems and architectures, as well as Microsoft Windows workstations and servers.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four‑year college or university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physical or Engineering Science.
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college in Computer Science or related field with at least two additional years of work experience equivalent to the duties of this job and the necessary skills.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent with at least four additional years of related work experience equivalent to the job duties and the necessary skills.
- Three to five years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- UNIX concepts and facilities; script languages (csh, Perl); C or C++ programming languages and computer architectural concepts.
- Computer hardware and software problem resolution procedures.
- Security infrastructure methodologies.
- U.S. citizen required; subject to government security investigation and eligibility for classified information access.
- Installation, integration, and maintenance of operating systems, applications, and other software and hardware.
- Intermediate UNIX systems support in a mid‑to‑large scale high‑performance, multi‑computer production environment.
- Instruction and training for other computational professionals.
- System‑operating characteristics monitoring, evaluation and technical support.
- Effective communication with computer hardware and software vendors.
- Development and maintenance of documentation regarding system management.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on a tier‑3 background investigation and Information Assurance certification within six months of hire.
- Must complete UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two weeks of hire and re‑certify annually.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server Administration.
- Experience working with large LINUX clusters with high‑speed interconnects, parallel file systems, DNS, NIS, Send Mail, NFS, cloud‑based services, DoD Information Assurance, and Red Hat.
