Position located in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Salary: $6,043.00 to $7,351.00 per month (SR‑24, Step D to I).

Responsibilities

As district (branch) chief, you will operationally manage and maintain a district‑wide boating and ocean recreation program. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, supervising, coordinating, and promoting operations and activities across the district’s small boat harbors, boat launch ramps, and other boating facilities. Duties involve reviewing overall boating activities, developing plans to meet the needs of the boating and general public, operating and maintaining facilities and designated areas, and coordinating boating registration and license/permit systems as well as other district programs.

Qualifications
  • Legal Authorization to Work:
    Citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Education Requirement:
    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Excess

    Work Experience:

    Work experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis, provided it demonstrates comparable scope, level, and quality.
  • Specialized

    Experience:

    Two and one-half years of progressively responsible professional work involving marine or boating related activities, including safe use of navigable streams, beaches, coastal areas, and ocean waters; evaluating and maintaining programs and activities to ensure safe operation of marine vessels; developing plans to meet boating and general public needs; and monitoring compliance with rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Operational Management

    Experience:

    One year of professional experience that provided thorough knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations, identifying program goals and objectives, evaluating attainment, resource needs, planning, organizing, and coordinating program activities within time, resource, and budgetary limits; developing procedures; and active participation in policy determination, budget formulation, and execution.
  • License Requirement:
    Valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
